Ski Resort Efforts

Several of North Lake Tahoe’s alpine ski resorts have adopted clean-air and green energy practices in order to aid in the efforts to maintain a healthy Lake Tahoe environment. Among them, Northstar-at-Tahoe was the first ski mountain in California to purchase Tradable Renewable Energy Credits (Green Tags). This move avoided a potential 215,600 pounds worth of greenhouse gas emissions. Soon after, the ski resort created the first “Green Village,” following guidelines set forth by the U.S. Green Building Council. Mt. Rose, Sugar Bowl and Alpine Meadows also use Green Tags, also known as “100% wind-powered” energy. These resorts, as well as Squaw Valley, Diamond Peak and Northstar go to great extremes to preserve the natural land on which their businesses are based. Their efforts include creating wetlands, restoring habitats and utilizing energy-efficient technology.
