North Lake Tahoe ski resorts are reporting up to two feet of new snow which is perfect conditions leading up to President’s Day Weekend. So check out these updates for the weekend and head on up to visit us.
Resorts and Towns’ Update: North Lake Tahoe ski resorts are offering great ski deals. Check out Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadow’s Tahoe Super 2, which offers two unrestricted days of skiing and riding at either resort for just $49 per day. This is a limited time offer, available through Friday, February 17.
The Rat Pack is coming home! The Cal Neva Resort & Spa in Crystal Bay, a historic playground for legendary singer and business operator Frank Sinatra and friends, is hosting “The Rat Pack: A Tribute Live from Vegas” Friday, February 17, 8 p.m. Tickets are $27/person the day of the show.
Northstar California is offering its popular First Tracks program Saturday, February 18. Guests meet at 7:30 a.m. with guides accompanying them to the Tahoe Zephyr Express to the top of Backside and Lookout Mountain with runs to themselves before the lifts open to the public. Cost is $80/person and includes a full breakfast. Reservations must be made 48 hours in advance.
The 4th Annual Black Tie & Tails Gala, a benefit for the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe, takes place Saturday, February 18, 5:30-11 p.m., at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. More than 300 guests are expected and will be greeted with a Hollywood-style red carpet entry. Tickets are $150/person.
PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn in Olympic Valley continues its Winter Winemaker Series Thursday, February 23, 5:30-9:30 p.m., with Bardessono Vineyards. Guests can mingle with the winemaker and enjoy sips by the glass, flight or paired with PlumpJack’s special Chef’s Tasting Menu.

Well 2011… it’s been great, but 2012 is sure looking tempting.

1. Cal Neva’s Black and White Ball
9:00 pm
There will be three rooms of sound and spectacle for Saturday’s New Year’s Eve revelers at the fifth annual Black and White Super Ball in the Cal Neva Resort at Crystal Bay.
Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. Music begins at 9 p.m. and ends on New Year’s Day morning. 21+
2. Northstar California’s “Fire & Ice” Spectacular
1pm – 9pm
Celebrate all that was in 2011, while ringing in all that will be in 2012 at The Village At Northstar this New Year’s Eve. From 1-9pm, The Village at Northstar will be alive with DJs, ice-skating, food & drink specials, a 2-hour live performance by “Led Zeppelin 2″, and much more. And then… The Big Show: Fireworks Spectacular at 9pm! A great night out for family and friends.
3. Squaw Valley’s Fireworks Extravaganza

Ring in the New Year at Squaw Valley with a New Year’s Eve Fireworks Extravaganza. The show starts at 9:30pm and is viewable from the Base Area. Grab a hot cocoa and find a seat as you take in the New Year with an amazing firework display at the bottom of the mountain. The show is plenty early accommodate the families that will be ringing in the New Year at High Camp to give them time to get down and celebrate in the base area.
4. Squaw Valley’s Party at the Olympic House
9pm to 1:30am
Those looking to bring in the New Year with style can head to the huge party in the Olympic House. Check out the biggest party on the North Shore and party like it’s 2012. Rock out to the 8 piece funk band Mojo Green in the Plaza Bar before heading over to check out DJ Zeb Early in Bar One.
Entry is $10 at the door (cash only) and guests must be 21 & older with a valid ID. Doors open at 9pm. Drink service until 1:30am.
5. Jackie Gree with Jabe Beyer + After Party with The Whitney Myer Band at the Crystal Bay Club Casino

Jackie Greene began performing at the age of 20. He has performing and making records for nearly a decade. He lives in Northern California and is gracing North Lake Tahoe with his musical talent this New Year’s Eve at Crystal Bay Club: the Red Room at the Crystal Bay Club. Seventy feet of snow last winter combined with a massive amount of improvement projects underway and planned for the near future in North Lake Tahoe, has visitors to the area pumped with anticipation of what the 2011/12 season may bring us. And we aren’t just boasting with pride of our mountains. Advance bookings are actually up 35%* compared to the same period in 2010.
This “bounce effect” (although we would like to think we are unique to this spike in numbers; we are indeed labeled and sorted into a category with like others) occurs after a phenomenal snow year. We also refer to this as “FOMO” – a condition of suffering from the “fear of missing out.” Consumers are making lodging arrangements early for this winter based on last year’s banner snow conditions – and we all know that La Niña brought us some epic days on the mountain last year.
But it’s not just the snow bringing our outside friends. There is also $100 million in improvement projects focusing on just our ski region. Between Vail Resorts acquiring Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort and Squaw Valley owners KSL Capital Partners purchasing Alpine Meadows, North Lake Tahoe is seeing both resorts upping their game and enhancing their products. Millions more are soon coming to North Tahoe with proposed redevelopment plans for Homewood Mountain Resort and the historic Crystal Bay casino corridor.
Who wouldn’t want to come see what all the fuss is about? It goes on…
In addition to Vail Resort’s $30 million, which has already been implemented this season, KSL Capital Partners $50 million, five-year capital revitalization commitments and $20 million spread across other Lake Tahoe ski resorts and community projects, JMA Ventures – owners of Homewood Mountain Resort - are one step closer to creating a pedestrian friendly village on the scenic West Shore that would not only help our friends in economic development but would also create another robust playground for our tourists.
The redevelopment plans include a five-star boutique hotel with up to 75 rooms at the resort’s North Base, as well as a full-service restaurant, spa, fitness facility, meeting space and 15,000-square feet of retail space, in addition to underground parking. The first phase of construction is slated for some time between 2014 and 2017, with the second phase beginning and ending between 2018 and 2020.
On the Nevada side of the North Shore, Boulder Bay is also moving forward on approvals for creating a vibrant, cultural village that will transform the existing Tahoe Biltmore casino property in Crystal Bay into an environmentally sustainable, yet affordable wellness resort. Updated plans, revised based on community feedback and input, call for a 275-room hotel with a 10,000 square-foot casino, 59 whole-ownership units, 14 on-site affordable housing units, 10 off-site affordable housing units, a spa and other amenities. Start and completion of construction is to be determined.
So although we threw a bunch of numbers at you, it’s clear that North Lake Tahoe is gearing up for 2012 and securing its seat at the popular table for winter destinations. Are you suffering from FOMO yet?

August 9 at Lake Tahoe kicks off a four-day training session for two adaptive athletes on an adventure that culminates in a January 17, 2012 arrival at the South Pole. While they’ll be heading towards the Pole in a small group with just guides and a documentary team, they’re looking for a virtual “armada” of paddlers to join them in their Tahoe training, either paddling along or cheering from shore as the wrap up each leg.
 John Davis As part of rigorous training for a 100-mile journey across the Antarctic landscape – all of which will be professionally filmed – Lake Tahoe residents and spinal cord-injury athletes John Davis, a two-time Paralympics gold medalist, and Grant Korgan, a world-class kayaker and adventurer, are set to kayak approximately 50 miles in 4 days following the Lake Tahoe Water Trail. Seasoned guides Doug Stoup and Tal Fletcher of Lake Tahoe will accompany Davis and Korgan on stand up paddleboards.
Davis rates paddling Lake Tahoe as a soulful experience. “You’re completely surrounded by snowcapped peaks while sitting atop tranquil waters so clear that you can literally see 75 feet down. But the lake also makes for a fantastic cross-training venue as we’ll be paddling approximately 96,800 paddle strokes, just more than half the 176,174 pole pushes required to trek 100 miles across the frozen landscape to the South Pole.”
 Grant Korgan “The Push” expedition team encourages the public to join the paddle, whether it be for an hour or day, creating a human-powered armada to follow and cheer on the team via kayaks and stand up paddleboards. According to Korgan, “With this Lake Tahoe paddle training event, as well as the overall mission of ‘The Push,’ we hope to inspire people of all walks of life that they too can achieve the seemingly insurmountable. We encourage them to push their own everyday limits and live up to their ultimate potential.”
If you’d like to paddle along or cheer from the shore, here’s the rough schedule of events:
Day 1
Tuesday, August 9, 10 miles
6 a.m.: Launch from Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge on the West Shore of Lake Tahoe paddling clockwise 7 miles to Carnelian Bay, California.
Approx. Noon: “The Push” team will land at a lakefront estate for a private lunch and presentation. Any paddling spectators can head on to Waterman’s Landing in Carnelian Bay for a light lunch.
“The Push” team then paddles to Waterman’s Landing for a quick stop before continuing onto Tahoe Vista, California, completing leg one
Approx. 5 p.m.: Arrive at Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort. One of the most festive days of the trip, this landing is open to the public and will include live music, along with free stand up paddleboard and kayak rentals and demonstrations.
Day 2
Wednesday, August 10, 16 miles
8 a.m.: Departing Mourelatos Lakeshore Resort and paddle 16 miles along the North Shore to camp lakeside on Nevada’s East Shore.
Day 3
Thursday, August 11, 12 miles
Paddle from East Shore clockwise along the lake to a campground located on Tahoe’s West Shore
Day 4
Friday, August 12, 12 miles
Depart early morning and paddle to the historic Ehrman Mansion at Sugar Pine Point on the West Shore, 10 miles south of Tahoe City
Noon: Picnic lunch at Ehrman Mansion, then continue on to Sunnyside Restaurant and Lodge
Approx. 6 p.m.: Arrive at Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge. Another great spectator and cheering opportunity.

As spectators and visitors make their way to Lake Tahoe this weekend for the 2011 Amgen Tour of California, they will not experience any road detours or alternative routes while driving to North Lake Tahoe.
“There are no road constructions projects, diversions or bypasses scheduled for North Lake Tahoe this weekend and Monday during the Amgen Tour of California,” said Tourism Director Andy Chapman of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association. “All interstates and highways are wide open.”
Whether coming via Interstate 80 East, Highway 89, and Highway 267 from Northern California or Highway 431 from Reno and Highway 50 from Carson City, motorists will not be subject to delays or having to take alternative routes.
North Lake Tahoe is also an ideal way to access South Lake Tahoe, home of the Stage 1 Amgen Tour of California Start on Sunday, May 15, as visitors can drive to the South Shore from North Lake Tahoe via Highway 89 (West Shore) and Highway 28 (East Shore). As recently reported, construction will close U.S. Highway 50 over Echo Summit near South Shore beginning today, Wednesday, May 11, through Thursday, May 26. There are also alternate routes up Highway 50 from Northern California, which add 30 to 45 minutes to travels to South Lake Tahoe.
The 2011 Amgen Tour of California, the largest cycling event in North America, will start at Lake Tahoe, one of the country’s most spectacular destinations and nationally renowned cycling meccas. Lake Tahoe’s first-ever involvement in the race will feature a lap-and-a-half around the lake beginning at the California/Nevada border in South Lake Tahoe with the Stage 1 Finish at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort (Sunday, May 15) in North Lake Tahoe. North Lake Tahoe also hosts the Stage 2 Start (Monday, May 16) at Squaw Valley USA, home of the 1960 Winter Olympics.
The Amgen Tour of California covers more than 800 miles, traveling between 15 host cities over the course of eight days from May 15-22, 2011.
North Lake Tahoe is also hosting the Tahoe 10-Day Countdown, which kicked off May 5, prior to Stage 1 and Stage 2 with a number of community-oriented events planned in the region’s commercial core districts that are now accessible via the paved bike paths that have been cleared of record snowfall and swept clean.

North Lake Tahoe celebrates its long winter season with SnowFest, a 10-day carnival and one of the region’s most popular annual family celebrations, March 4-13, 2011.
In its 30th year, SnowFest continues to draw thousands of attendees with the majority of events free to spectators. The annual favorites are back, along with expanded special events, including the Opening Night Ceremonies, Laser Show, Torchlight Parade and Fireworks; Mamasake Extreme Food Challenge for those with a strong stomach; 21th Annual Gar Woods Polar Bear Swim in Tahoe’s frigid waters; SnowFest Parades in Tahoe City and Kings Beach; Sunnyside Luau; the Great Ski Race, an annual cross country adventure; Kings Beach Ice Castle and Lighting Contest; Wacky Winter Human Bowling with snow saucers and inflatable pins; Tahoe City Golf Course’s “Dog Pull”; the Dragon Snow Palace; Dummy Downhill at Diamond Peak in Incline Village; the highly creative and 23rd Annual Snow Sculpture Contest at Tahoe City’s River Ranch Lodge; Special Olympics Polar Plunge at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe; and the 3rd Annual Ta-Hoe Nalu Arctic Standup Paddleboard Race.

If you’re heading to Tahoe or considering a last-minute trip for the holidays you’ll find plenty to do thanks to a laundry list of festivities and events. Here’s a quick rundown of some highlights, but be sure to check North Lake Tahoe’s event calendar for a complete listing.
Christmas Celebrations
 Tahoe City has been celebrating the season since December 1 and continues through January 2 with the Holly-Days Jubilee. Day and night visitors will find festive experiences throughout town.
Santa will be sitting for free photos and cookies at Hyatt Regency Incline Village December 18 from 2 – 5 p.m. and the resort’s chef will have his renowned gingerbread houses for sale.
Olympic Valley, home of Squaw Valley USA and Resort at Squaw Creek, hosts Santa and carolers in the village daily December 18-24. On Christmas Eve, December 24 head over to watch the traditional torchlight parade down Squaw’s slopes, visible anywhere in the valley. The parade kicks off at dusk, about 6 p.m. Santa also hits the slopes (to work off his cookies) at Squaw December 22 – 25 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and we hear he carves a mean turn. Squaw also hosts snowtubing parties, moonlit snowshoe tours, hot cocoa and s’mores in the Village and more. Get complete details.
Santa’s making the rounds to Diamond Peak as well December 23 – 25 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. daily. He’s also skiing at Alpine Meadows December 23 – 24. Alpine’s Last Chair also has live music and a festive atmosphere both of those days as well.
Northstar-At-Tahoe has a host of holiday festivities December 18 – 24 including s’mores in the Village, live music, daily appearances by Santa handing out goodie bags, Santa letter-writing stations, ice skating, and even non-denominational Sunday and Christmas Eve worship services. New Year’s Eve Parties
The Last Chair at Alpine Meadows offers a pre-New Year’s Eve cocktail party from 3 – 6 p.m. with a champagne toast and festivities.
Tahoe Donner Downhill hosts a New Year’s Eve torchlight parade at 6 p.m. Skiers that want to participate, and can ski the course in the dark, can arrive a t 4:30 p.m. to sign up.
Crystal Bay gets hoppin’ with Jackie Greene performing at the Crystal Bay Club Casino and Tahoe Biltmore offers a variety of specials and parties as well including live music and a champagne toast.
Resort at Squaw Creek’s Magical Memories New Year’s Eve Dinner Buffet at Grand Celebration kicks off at 7 p.m. and includes a DJ and dancing, magician, Comedy Central comedian Rick D’Elia, dinner and late-night munchies and a midnight balloon drop and toast.
 Squaw Valley USA hosts several New Year’s Eve parties including a family celebration at High Camp and the West Coast Party at the Olympic House. They’ll also have fireworks at the base of the mountain at 9:30 p.m.
There are a handful of parties at Northstar-At-Tahoe including the Fire & Ice Party in the Village with dinner, dancing, ice skating, fire dancers, fireworks and more. There are also shindigs at the Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe in Manzanita and in the ballroom.

 North Lake Tahoe takes its music outdoors with a variety of concerts and festivals all part of the destination’s High Notes – North Tahoe’s summer long Music Series, running now through August. The lake’s music campaign also has a new website the covers all the weekly free events, festivals and headliners.
When you visiting country’s largest alpine lake, you will find outdoor live performances free of charge every night of the week, except Mondays. Sundays rock out at Tahoe City’s Commons Beach, which features Hot Buttered Rum July 18. It’s Blues Tuesdays at the Village at Squaw Valley, with Candye Kane July 20, and live music Wednesdays at the Truckee Regional Park and Thursdays on Commercial Row. Kings Beach is lakeside Fridays with Downbeat July 23, then Tahoe City Saturdays for Heritage Plaza’s Unplugged. The Village at Northstar also does a variety of live music on weekends.
There are also a number of fabulous ticketed musical events held throughout the region. In addition to its popular Shakespeare on the Beach, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival now provides a Monday and Friday night music series, which is also held at the scenic Sand Harbor Beach State Recreation Area just outside of Incline Village. This summer’s calendar is the best of the best with Orgone plugging funk, soul and Afro beats August 20. Sugaray lights us the stage with blues and souls July 16 and August 9, with Paul Thorn performing southern rock August 2 – all against Tahoe’s alpenglow sky.
Right on the Truckee River, River Ranch Lodge has its 18th Annual Under the Stars Concert Series with reggae, bluegrass, funk and rock, with Pato Banton & The New Generation Band July 22 and Prezident Brown from Jamaica August 5.
The Lake Tahoe Music Festival is one of the summer’s must-attend events with musical performances, set for July 22 to August 7, ranging from Broadway to classical to rock to jazz and big band swing. This year, the festival is taking their Orchestra Night on a swingin’ ride…straight to the “sing era” of the 40s and 50s with Simply Sinatra, starring vocalist Steve Lippia, who will be belting out tunes including “My Way,” “New York New York” and “Mack the Knife” July 29 at Old Greenwood. Combining R&B, jazz and pop sounds, Natalie Cole, a nine-time Grammy Award-winner, is an unstoppable force in music and will perform August 5 at Northstar-at-Tahoe Resort. The festival’s first country concert stars country legend Wynonna at Northstar July 31.
Wanderlust returns to Squaw Valley USA July 29 to August 1 with yoga, music and nature at the festival’s forefront. The music is a mix of styles and genres ranging from indie rock to electronic to alternative world to kirtan. The impressive lineup includes The Brazilian Girls, whose latest album was nominated for a Grammy, as well as MC Yogi, who combines his loves of yoga with hip-hop music. MC Yogi made history when he released his video “Vote for Hope” in support of President Barack Obama. Through an incredible grassroots network, the video reached more than a million people in less than three weeks leading up to Election Day.
In Lake Tahoe’s historic casino corridor, the Crystal Bay Club offers a host of free concerts throughout the week, as well as ticketed bands from the Bay Area. What sets this venue apart is its intimate setting that gets guests up close to the performers.

North Lake Tahoe as towns and villages pull out all the stops for scary and merry Halloween events starting this week.
This Friday, October 16 the Rocky Horror Dance Party & Costume Contest on the Marina Green at the Boatworks Mall in Tahoe City starts off the festivities beginning at 7 p.m. with the movie showing followed by dancing and costume contest.
Tahoe City’s Harvest Festival is in full swing featuring the Rideout Community Center Pumpkin Patch Saturday, October 17, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with bounce house, dessert walk, hay and pony rides, silly games and pumpkin patch.
Tahoe City merchants are staying open late so children can trick-or-treat down “main street” Saturday, October 31 from 4-6 p.m.
Incline Village’s 2nd Annual Monster Dash is set for Saturday, October 17, 11 a.m. with a 5K fun run that starts in the Upper Village Center. Halloween costumes are encouraged for all runners, walkers and spectators.
The 30th Annual Pumpkin Patch returns to the Incline Village Elementary School Saturday, October 17 with clowns, a bake sale, bounce house and pony rides.
The Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Casino & Spa in Incline Village hosts their first-ever Pumpkin Carving Contest Saturday, October 24, 4-6 p.m., for ages 6 to 12 years, with prizes awarded to the best jack o’ lantern creators.
The first-ever Historic Haunted Tour of Truckee is Wednesday, October 21, with a guided walking tour about the city’s Old West heritage including shootouts and it’s haunted history. The adult only tour includes a glass of wine, live music and a silent auction. Childcare is provided by the KidZone Museum in Truckee with “Professor Higginbody’s Halloween Night Out.” Cost is $10 per child for parents attending the tour and includes gooey pizza and oozy science activities for children 2 years and older. Guided tour tickets are $25 per person.
Spending the witching hours at the Village at Squaw Valley, where travelers can guess the weight of The Giant Pumpkin anytime from Saturday, October 24 through Saturday, October 31, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., with prizes for the closest guess. There’s also a Great Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt during that same week, and trick-or-treating with merchants on Halloween. Both the Auld Dubliner and Le Chamois host Halloween Costume Bashes Saturday, October 31 featuring DJs spinning the tunes.
The Tahoe Maritime Museum on the West Shore gets into the Halloween spirit Thursday, October 29 with Family Night Out starting at 5 p.m. with children’s activities and family-friendly movie. Guests of all sizes are encouraged to wear costumes.
It’s adults only at the Devil’s Night Costume Party with AC/DShe at the Crystal Bay Casino in Crystal Bay Friday, October 30, 10 p.m. Tickets are $23 per person. The rock band Tainted Love gets partiers grooving on Halloween starting at 9 p.m. with the Creepers Ball Costume Party. Tickets are $25 per person.
