SUMMER KICKS OFF IN TAHOE WITH OPENING DAY AT THE LAKE

(NORTH LAKE TAHOE, California/Nevada) – Summer kicks off in North Lake Tahoe Memorial Day Weekend with the 2nd Annual Opening Day at the Lake. This four-day special event begins Friday, May 23 and is comprised of festivities along the West Shore.
Events include deck opening celebrations at Sunnyside Resort and Chamber’s Landing, tours of the historical Vikingsholm Castle and Ehrman Mansion, grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Tahoe Maritime Museum, live jazz on the deck at West Shore Café, open house at the Rideout Community Center, Lake Tahoe Music Festival fund-raiser and swing band at Granlibakken Resort, Chris Craft Boat Show and hybrid boat launch and the popular Mike Brown Seaplane Splash-In at Obexer’s Marina.
“We wanted to have a fun opening day that would promote the summer and draw people up to Lake Tahoe,” said Owner Gary Chaney of the Chaney House and President of the West Shore Association. “The West Shore is a magical place and we look forward to sharing the area, as well as the rest of North Lake Tahoe, with visitors and local residents who enjoy pure, unspoiled natural beauty.”
Travelers attending Opening Day at the Lake can get an event passport stamped to qualify for numerous prizes and gift certificates, including one-hour jet ski rental at High Sierra Waterski, $200 savings bond from Bank of the West, two-night stay at Granlibakken Resort, dinner for four at Pisano’s Pizza, 10-cup coffee pass at Tahoe House Bakery & Gourmet, one adult midweek season pass at Homewood Mountain Resort, two season passes to the Lake Tahoe Music Festival, bike rentals for four at West Shore Sports and a two-night stay at the historic Chaney House. Opening Day at the Lake is spearheaded by the West Shore Association of Lake Tahoe.
“This is our official launch into the boating and summer season,” Andy Chapman, Tourism Director of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, said. “The first days of summer bring with them a buzz of excitement and we want to capture that. People are just eager to get outside and enjoy themselves. Whether it’s on the water, on the beaches or taking part in other seasonal events, it’s a great time of year.”
