Dining

North Lake Tahoe has earned a reputation for dining options almost as impressive as the scenery. The menus at our nearly 120 eateries run the gamut from sophisticated to something simpler for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

To whet your appetite, here’s a taste of a few of our award-winning restaurants.

Baxter’s Bistro & Lounge, Northstar-at-TahoeTM
Partners Mark Estee and JJ Morgan bring their mix of fresh ingredients and entertainment to this location as well as Moody’s. Chef de Cuisine Michael Plapp prepares simple, artistic, flavorful lunch, dinner and appetizer menus. It’s contemporary American cuisine, flavored with Sud Tyrol influences and served in a casually elegant atmosphere with a touch of easy, ski-town vibe. Groups welcome.

Big Water Grille, Incline Village
From a mountainside setting, the bar/lounge, dining room and deck overlook panoramic lake vistas. Executive Chef Jay Veregge calls his approachable cooking style “market basket cuisine,” resulting in dishes like foie gras-veal sweetbreads “pansotti” with black truffle, caramelized onion and maple-pepper demi-sec. Wine cellar/private dining for 18 or fewer.

Gar Woods Grill and Pier, Carnelian Bay
The heated outdoor deck and the floor-to-ceiling windows showcase the lakefront location. A comfortable, mahogany-accented dining room creates the nostalgic ambiance of Tahoe’s classic wood boat era. With a steak and seafood menu and the signature slushy drink, the Wet Woody, it feels like summer here year-round. Banquet facilities for groups.

Grahams, Squaw Valley
Built over 50 years ago, Squaw Valley's first home has become synonymous with intimate fine dining. A versatile menu of California cuisine with country French, Italian and Spanish influences, along with an award-winning, 800-vintage wine list, is served by firelight and candlelight in mountain lodge surroundings. Valley View and Mountain View Rooms for groups.

Lone Eagle Grille, Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, Incline Village
Grand Lodge style – warm woods, open beams, massive rock fireplaces – combined with unobstructed Tahoe panoramas at this well known restaurant on the resort’s private beach. The signature High Sierra menu, featuring hearty entrées like pan-seared elk tenderloin and rosemary grilled quail, is well matched by an extensive wine list. Banquet rooms for groups.

Manzanita, Ritz-Carlton Highlands, Lake Tahoe, Northstar CaliforniaTM
Manzanita features seasonally-inspired California cuisine with a regional mountain resort influence. Discover for yourself why Carey Sweet of San Francisco Chronicle called it, “Tahoe’s best restaurant”.  Private dining room available for ten to 25 guests.

Moody’s Bistro & Lounge, Truckee
Set in the early 19th Century ambiance of the Truckee Hotel, this restaurant is a blend of acclaimed bistro and relaxed “drinkery.” Contemporary American cuisine that’s fresh, seasonal, simple and local is skillfully prepared by executive chef/co-owner Mark Estee. His partner, JJ Morgan, is reinventing Tahoe’s music scene with eclectic jazz acts and DJs. Groups welcome.

Pianeta, Truckee
Flavorful Italian/Mediterranean selections, from healthy, pure ingredients, are served in rustic, cozy, European surroundings. The rolled pastas are made in the kitchen daily and the dinner menu features dishes like crispy duck with balsamic and basil infused demi-glaze and grilled wild king salmon topped with a lemon garlic aioli. Upstairs area with classic farm tables for groups.

PlumpJack Café, Squaw Valley
Based on regional influences and indigenous flavors, the inventive menu of modern California cuisine changes frequently. The service is attentive, the ambiance chic contemporary, and the well-priced wine list is personally selected by the chef and sommelier. Banquet and private rooms for groups.

Sunnyside Lakeside Dining Room and Mountain Grill, Tahoe City
Located on the Northwest Shore, the two restaurants at the Sunnyside Resort share Tahoe’s largest lakefront deck. The Lakeside Dining Room offers steaks and chops, featuring prime and all-natural beef, along with fresh seafood and a thoughtful wine list. The Mountain Grill serves more casual fare – appetizers, sandwiches, seafood dishes and salads – in a lively ambience. Banquet facilities.

Wolfdale’s, Tahoe City
Blending the flavors of the West and Far East, the award-winning “Cuisine Unique” menu changes frequently to reflect the seasons. A creative variety of seafood, meats, game, exotic produce, and desserts harmonizes with an extensive wine list and full bar (where locals like to dine). In summer, lakeview outdoor dining is available. Groups welcome.
