Unique Venues

An off-site team-building event becomes even more memorable when it takes place in distinctly Tahoe surroundings. Contact the North Lake Tahoe Convention and Visitors Bureau for assistance with these and other group favorites:

Thunderbird Lodge

A multi-building historic site, the northeast-shore landmark offers 3,000 square feet of interior space, as well as a lakeside lawn, two patios, a gazebo, and a private sandy lagoon. The stone Lodge was built between 1936 and 1940 for San Francisco millionaire playboy, George Whittell, Jr. Rental fees assist the Thunderbird Lodge Preservation Society, a Nevada non-profit organization.

Sand Harbor Nevada State Park

A few miles outside of Incline Village, panoramic lakeviews, turquoise waters and a long sand beach provide an unequaled backdrop for a Memorial Day through Labor Day event. On a pine-dotted, rocky point, a covered area is available by reservation and accommodates up to 100. The facility is equipped with electricity, water, tables and a large barbecue. Groups can also enjoy a short Nature trail with interpretive signage and visitor-center displays on Lake Tahoe’s natural and cultural history.

Commons Beach Park

In the heart of Tahoe City, the four-plus-acre park’s lakefront location has played a central role in the town’s history. It has been the address for a shipping hub for turn-of-the-century trains and steamers, the post office, jail and firehouse. Today, the park’s views, large grass and sand area, and central location are popular with visiting groups as well as locals. The group barbecue area can accommodate up to 75. The adjacent amphitheater will seat 65. Both can be rented through the Tahoe City Public Utility District.

North Tahoe Cruises Tahoe Gal

The smaller-scale Mississippi-style riverboat, a familiar sight on North Shore waters, sets sail from Tahoe City’s Lighthouse Pier. May through October, she welcomes aboard groups as large as 135 for a full-boat charter, 30 or less for exclusive use of the top-deck Commodore’s Salon. A full galley and bar offer cocktails, an extensive wine list and a menu of simple to gourmet appetizers and entrées to accompany the spectacular, shoreline-to-shoreline views.

Hellman-Ehrman Mansion

Reminiscent of Tahoe’s turn-of-the-century grand summer homes, the 12,000 square-foot mansion was built in 1902-03. Also known as Pine Lodge, it provides an extraordinary backdrop for outdoor events today, from May through October. Part of California’s Sugar Pine Point State Park since 1965, the spacious lakeview grounds, with gently sloping lawns, can be reserved up to a year in advance. Groups can also explore several surrounding trails.

Squaw Valley USA High Camp
The world-famous ski area’s cable car takes groups to High Camp, elevation 8200’, year-round (schedule varies). With lake and mountain panoramas, High Camp is home to the Olympic Ice Pavilion (ice-skating all year), the Swimming Lagoon & Spa (opens in spring), tennis courts (summer play), the Olympic Museum, restaurants and shops. It’s also the gateway to hiking and mountain biking trails in the summer, and beginner skier terrain in the winter. Cable car rates are discounted for 25 or more and a banquet for up to 110 can be arranged.
