Squaw Valley USA spans six Sierra peaks with 4,000 acres of open-bowl terrain, an average annual snow pack of 450 inches, a base elevation of 6,200 feet, and a vertical drop of 2,850 feet. At High Camp, there is ice skating, hot tubbing, dining and a family snow-tubing area.
For a classic alpine ski resort, try Sugar Bowl, home to the first chairlift and gondola in California. They have recently made a number of major improvements including four new express quads and a 20,000 square foot day lodge. Other alpine resorts in the area include Homewood Mountain Resort with 1,260 acres, Diamond Peak with 665 acres and Mount Rose with 1,000 acres.
