TOUGH MUDDER UP FOR AWARD, VOTING ENDS AUGUST 15
(NORTH LAKE TAHOE, California/Nevada) – Tough Mudder, a military-style obstacle course and one of the most difficult events in the country that comes to Squaw Valley USA the weekend of September 17-18, has been nominated by the readers of SportsTravel magazine for a SportsTravel Award.
Criteria for nomination and voting include superior organization of and attendance at the event, an excellent experience for the competitors and/or spectators at the event, and how the site or venue served to enhance the event. Final balloting is open through Monday, August 15, with the winners announced at the TEAMS '11 Conference & Expo October 3-6 in Las Vegas.
"Since the location of the event is a major part of the criteria for being nominated, the people of North Lake Tahoe should take great pride in knowing that an event held in their region is being recognized for its excellence," said Timothy Schneider, publisher of SportsTravel magazine, which organizes the TEAMS Conference & Expo. "SportsTravel readers are the leaders of the sports-event industry and they really know what it takes to execute a high-quality athletic event. The SportsTravel Awards program is an opportunity for them to honor their peers and the cities that host sporting events for a job well done."
Official ballots are available in the July and August issues of SportsTravel magazine. Readers may also find more information and vote online at http://www.SportsTravelMagazine.com.
Approximately 20,000 are expected to participate in the 10-mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces to be the ultimate test of strength, grit, stamina and camaraderie. Tough Mudder features more than 20 military-style obstacles, such as a run through a gauntlet of four-foot-high flames called “Fire Walker,” oiled up monkey bars called “Funky Monkey” and a field of 10,000-volt live wires called “Electroshock Therapy.” The event is not about finish times or winning a medal to show off. Simply completing a Tough Mudder is a badge of honor. On average only 78% of participants finish a Tough Mudder event and with a course designed to be impossible to complete individually, four to five participants register with a team. Spectator tickets are also available for friends and family cheering on participants. For more information about the event, visit http://www.toughmudder.com.
