Join Sarah Hockensmith of the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science as she introduces you to the diverse landscapes of the Tahoe region from lake level to the tops of the mountains. To celebrate Tahoe’s natural history, TINS is hosting the Tahoe Nature Chase during 2017. The presentation will cover how different flower, tree, bird, and mammal species adapt as they go up in elevation and what unique creatures you can find around specific elevations in the area.
This is an amazing opportunity and resource to learn about this beautiful place we call home. Grab a friend, bring the family and come down to Alpenglow Sports on Thursday May 25th, 6:30pm for a visual slideshow and lecture presentation. Field guidebooks will be available to further your curiosity. This is a free community event with a suggested donation of $5.00 to be donated to TINS.
The option to join the season long Tahoe Nature Chase will be offered. The Tahoe Nature Chase celebrates many aspects of Tahoe’s natural history during all seasons of the calendar year. Participants will explore the Lake Tahoe region in search of designated nature-observation challenges that are assigned for each month throughout the 2017 calendar year. It is important to note that this event is not strictly a competition, but an opportunity for the entire community to learn about, appreciate, and experience the Tahoe region’s natural phenomena, from the waters of Lake Tahoe to the top of the highest mountain, and through the seasons
TINS has a long-term goal of bringing a world-class interpretive nature center and educational facility to the Tahoe area. In the meantime, we engage in multiple science, education, and outreach programs to promote greater appreciation, understanding, and stewardship of the natural resources of the Tahoe region.
Through applied field research, TINS works collaboratively to help public and private land managers answer the questions that inform management decisions. Through outreach and citizen science, we engage the public directly, and allow them access to a deeper natural history experience and a greater comprehension of the region’s natural resources.
