Summer events inspire awe in North Lake Tahoe
Outdoor enthusiasts, foodies and families rejoice for a plethora of events

North Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev. (summer 2014) – As temperatures of the air and lake warm, there are many North Lake Tahoe events to suit the needs of all. North Lake Tahoe businesses and organizations will host dozens of multi-day events from the mountains to the shores of the lake.

With an unseasonably warm spring, summer activities around the north shore have already begun to commence. From the pier bar opening at Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort Spa and Casino to early openings at area golf courses to the trails and vistas awaiting footprints and bike tires, it’s starting to feel like summer. While Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-26) typically marks opening day on the lake, locals have hit the sand with their paddleboards and beach blankets. Cabin windows are open and closets have been switched over.

Calendared events include deck openings and parties. New this year, visitors and locals will be given passports in which they collect stamps at each business they visit. Filled passports can be turned in for prizes.

Human-Powered Sports

Lake Tahoe is prime vacationing for those who appreciate clean air, clear water, scenic views, and an elevated heart rate. Numerous North Tahoe events are designed to celebrate the environment a natural way with human-powered sports.

Come challenge yourself at one of the many events including trail running, mountain biking, triathlon, stand up paddle boarding, and swimming at North Lake Tahoe Adventure Sports Week June, 20-29. Or enjoy some of the more friendly options like free guided hikes and rides as well as lakeside concerts and movies on the beach.

From June 21 – 29 Alpenglow Sports presents the Alpenglow Mountain Festival, a week full of friends, outdoor activities and good times. Events are focused around human-powered sports education and inspiration and include stand up paddleboard, yoga on SUP, bike rides, historic hikes, full moon hikes, wildflower hikes, meet & greets with athletes and more.

To maximize lake time, take a journey to the longest running stand up paddleboard race in the world, the Ta-hoe Nalu Festival in Kings beach August 15-17. Witness world-class athletes race over the crystal clear waters of Lake Tahoe, surrounded by the majestic Sierra Nevada. This paddle festival offers fun for all ages and skill levels. The Elite Race features a $10,000 prize. Perfect for all in the family, Ta-hoe Nalu Paddle Festival includes a live concert as well as free paddle clinics and demos.

Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. Tough Mudder has already challenged more than half a million inspiring participants worldwide and raised more than $3 million for the Wounded Warrior Project. Tough Mudder will be returning to Northstar California for two days of challenge, August 16 and 17

As part of more than 30 events in the global IRONMAN Series, IRONMAN Lake Tahoe is one of the most scenic and challenging courses. The Lake Tahoe event begins with a 2.2-mile open water swim, 112-mile bike course and a full marathon, ending at the cobbled corridors of the Village at Squaw Valley. This is an adrenalin-charged event, presenting a fun opportunity for visitors to watch or experience as volunteers. Two events will be held on September 21, the IRONMAN© and the American debut of the IRONMAN© 70.3.

Music

For music-lovers there is no shortage of concerts. To help organize all musical extravaganzas in to one place, North Lake Tahoe will launch Nigh Notes, a hub of all summer music. The summer-long line-up includes free concerts, ticketed concerts, beach concerts, mountain concerts and concerts in legendary showrooms and intimate pubs. Art and culture

Sand Harbor will again transform this summer to be a 100 percent outside amphitheatre and host of the 2014 Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. The talented cast will perform six nights a week from July 11 to August 24. The family friendly comedy enchants viewers through twists and turns in plot as the characters journey through the fertile Forest of Arden.

The second annual Lake Tahoe Dance Festival featuring the Tahoe Youth Ballet will be at the historic Gatekeeper’s Museum and William B. Layton Park in Tahoe City, Calif. July 15-18. The festival fosters collaboration between artists and young dancers with main stage performances, audience participatory demonstrations, site-specific installations, meet-the-artists talks and more.

Wanderlust is a one-of-a-kind festival bringing together the world’s leading yoga teachers, top musical acts and DJs, renowned speakers, top chefs and winemakers, and much, much more — all in a setting of breathtaking natural beauty of Olympic Valley July 18-20.

Tahoe SummerFest is fast becoming one of Tahoe’s must-do events. Under the mastery of Maestro Joel Revzen, top players from the nation’s best symphonies gather to create the magic of SummerFest. This season features Metropolitan Opera Star Matthew Polenzani and U.S. Billboard Classical Chart best-selling pianist Simone Dinnerstein. SummerFest graces the shores of North Lake Tahoe August 1 to August 27.

Relax

The 2014 Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance promises to be the best show to date. Obexer’s Boat Company provides Concours enthusiasts with an unprecedented view of Lake Tahoe, the largest wooden boat collection in North America, and an incredible vendor show layout, wine village, dining and VIP experience August 8-9.

Blue skies, fine wine, the amazing creations by renowned chefs and the first traces of autumn mark the beginning of the Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival at Northstar California. This year’s event kicks off Labor Day weekend and continues all week throughout North Lake Tahoe. A grape stomp, classes, tastings, music, art, wine, and a grand finale featuring a Culinary Competition and Grand Tasting at Northstar California ensure moments of absolute bliss.
