Lake Tahoe’s premier winter film series returns with co-founder Dave Nettle on

November 17th, 2016 7pm at Squaw Valley. FREE Admission. All ages are welcome.

Tahoe City, Calif. (October 11th, 2016) – Alpenglow Sports, Tahoe City’s iconic 39-year-old

mountain shop is proud to announce their 11th annual Winter Film Series. On Thursday, November

17th, 2016 at 7pm local hero Dave Nettle will kick off the series at Squaw Valley’s world-famous

Olympic Village Lodge with his show “Ski Mountaineering in the Tyrol: Hut to Hut Ski Touring the

Stubai Alps.”

Each November, the eagerly anticipated winter tradition for North Tahoe’s skiing, climbing and

adventure community begins with co-founder and local hero Dave Nettle. Designed to inspire,

motivate and educate, the event runs from November through February and showcases four to five

famous athletes who tell various tales of adventure from remote mountain ranges across the globe.

All shows are free and raffle prizes from sponsors are sold to raise funds for local non-profit

organizations.

To date, the Alpenglow Sports Winter Film Series has raised over $70,000 for the North Lake Tahoe

non-profit community. Past beneficiaries include the Sierra Avalanche Center, Tahoe Nordic Search

and Rescue, Disabled Sports Far West, the Tahoe Food Hub, High Fives Foundation and many more.

“The Winter Film Series represents a unique opportunity for our community to come together and

celebrate a shared passion of mountain adventure,” according to event director and owner of

Alpenglow Sports, Brendan Madigan.

“It’s a special event that perpetuates the connectivity of our mountain tribe while raising vital funds

for local non-profits making a tangible difference in our community,” added Madigan.

“While all of our presenters are world-famous, amazing athletes, they are even better story tellers.

We believe that there is a certain magic in story telling, and these speakers empower our

community to live more engaged and connected lives,” according to Madigan.

While the 2016-17 edition showcases world-famous athletes such as Will Gadd, Tommy Caldwell,

Adrian Ballinger and Cory Richards, each season always begins with local hero Dave Nettle. Living

life to the fullest through mountain adventures while having fun with great friends is the theme of

each of Nettle’s stories. For his 2016 show, Nettle will present his show “Ski Mountaineering in the

Tyrol: Hut to Hut Ski Touring the Stubai Alps.” The story captures the ski adventure of six friends

while hut skiing across the Tyrol region of Austria.

Madigan added, “As co-founder of the Winter Film Series, Dave Nettle has been cultivating

community in North Lake Tahoe through his compelling tales of adventure, for well over thirty

years, and it’s always such an honor to kick off the series with him.”

Nettle’s show is driven by beautiful images, hilarious narrative, and just enough emotion to bring a

tear to the eye. Armed with the best Euro exchange rate in years and a lot of ski days under the belt

from a fantastic backcountry season in Tahoe, the crew was able to make the most of what the

Austrian Tyrol is all about: mountains, skiing, hospitality and great food and wine. The show is sure

to get you fired up for your own upcoming winter adventures.

The non-profit beneficiary for the evening is the Tahoe Backcountry Alliance. The Tahoe

Backcountry Alliance is the voice for the human-powered winter backcountry community in the

Lake Tahoe area, advocating for and informing our community about critical issues affecting winter

backcountry recreation in Tahoe. Amazing raffle prizes will be on hand from generous sponsors

Millet, LEKI, Western Mountaineering, prAna, Strength Solutions and more.

In addition to Nettle, the 11th annual Winter Film Series will showcase the best lineup in over a

decade. Series speakers include cutting-edge ice and alpine climber Will Gadd on December 1st,

who will present his show “30 Trips of a Lifetime in 60 High-Speed Minutes.” On January 5th, Tommy

Caldwell will present a once-in-a-lifetime show on his historic ascent of Yosemite’s Dawn Wall, the

hardest traditional free-climb on earth. On February 23rd high-altitude mountaineers Adrian

Ballinger and Cory Richards will round out the series with a tandem show on their

#EverestNoFilter oxygen-less, Snapchat-captured attempt of the world’s tallest peak, 20,3320-foot

Mt. Everest.

Please come early for drink specials and good seating. The show begins at 7pm. Doors open at

615pm and participants are encouraged to take advantage of drink and dinner specials from

Fireside Pizza, both on site and at their restaurant. Please call Alpenglow Sports at 530.583.6917

for further details.
